What’s With All The Lawrence Recently?
I have a suspicion that my tens of followers of this blog may have either removed it from their RSS feed or are considering it after my last few posts, which all seem to be videos about Lawrence, be it about St. Patrick’s Day, or dancing cats, or Lawrence celebrating after NCAA tournament games. What’s the deal? And can’t I make compelling videos people might want to watch?
To my tiny but potential audience - hi there! - I’d say that I’ll get there eventually. I just got a Canon 7D after saving my pennies for a while, with the hopes of shooting something with plot and story in the future. It’s been a long time since I’ve shot video with something better than an inexpensive camcorder, so I’ve been taking every opportunity to shoot and cut things together for practice sake. I have been letting my subject come to me, and hence you get some boring, poorly shot videos. I have been learning as I go, like “focus in SLR mode then shoot video because you can’t focus in the LCD worth anything” or “you can get away with very low light while shooting outdoors.”
It’s not like they are totally devoid of compelling content! Every so often I’ll catch something interesting, like a little girl playing with little dogs…
…or a pretty girl singing “Drops of Jupiter” next to a #kuboobs tee-shirt…
…or a tuba player that will play for beer.
So please bear with me. I’ll try to post some cute cats memes or whatever the kids are doing between the videos to keep you all happy.

Hey Internet. You know I know what you like.
I love the Lawrence St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Granted, I am usually too short to actually see the parade itself. What is great for me is the collection of people it brings out.
This was also an opportunity to try out shooting with my Canon 7D. Great thing - having a lens I can actually choose my focus! Bad thing - apparently I’m not very good with focusing.

MT is Chuck Norris
At work, there’s a guy on my team who has been there for years that I will refer to as MT. He’s known around the company for his Harry Potter like ability to craft a fix where mortals dare not tread. He’s also a super nice, motorcycle driving, wine drinking guy who will go see a show four hours away and still be in to work by 8 am. My aspiration is to be that cool some day.
My friend Matt texted me last week saying ‘MT needs a Chuck Norris meme’ and so the ‘MT is Chuck Norris’ meme was born.
- MT rode his motorcycle to work through a hailstorm and still got to work by 6 am.
- MT meditated until he reached Nirvana, and later said it was “pretty cool.”
- MT is vegan because he can talk to animals, including eggs.
- MT once met Bono. Bono was in awe.
- MT can taste the subtleties of Cabernet Sauvignon, but he’ll drink Bud Light with you.
- MT has heard of that band, and saw them live.
- The academy goes to MT to pick their best picture.
- MT found the bug you’ve been hunting all day, and has emailed you a fix.
- MT is so hip, his favorite band hasn’t heard of themselves yet,
- There is no compiler. MT is on a TTY assembling your source files by hand.
- MT’s employee number is a schwa.
- The wine of the month club subscribes to MT.
- MT’ goatee has its own motorcycle.
- NPR gives you a MT tote bag if you pledge $100 or more.
- In Latin America, they only refer to MT in whispers as “El Chupacabra”.
